Murals & Public Art

Creating artwork in public spaces is an honor and new found passion. Below are some recent works…

Collective Bloom – HSBC Buffalo Headquarters, Buffalo, NY, 2024

Inspired by HSBC’s commitment to inclusivity and imagining a brighter future for all. Like much of the area surrounding Larkin Square, the design is a mix of old and new – featuring Niagara falls and the Rainbow Bridge on the right, and a sun filled Buffalo skyline over Lake Erie on the left. At the center of the design are giant peonies, which represent good fortune, prosperity, dignity, and compassion.

Town of Tonawanda Aquatic and Fitness Center, 2023

The Town of Tonawanda put out a call this past winter looking for artists to liven up their Aquatic and Fitness Center. The huge building is set way back from a busy road and many people weren't aware that this amazing facility existed. Tonawanda wanted a way to illuminate this town gem, and out of the 30 proposals – they selected my design to breathe some life into this great asset. My design brought the energy and features of the facility front and center with dynamic waves and a welcoming message – Something for Every Body. This 4,400 sq. ft. mural has delighted the community, and will serve as a backdrop for concerts and community events taking place on the great lawn in front of the center.

Public art has a unique way of uplifting a community and telling the story of a space, and Cassi's mural does both so well. It will be inviting viewers and visitors to the AFC for many years to come.

Native Pollinators Mural, 2023

Village of Kenmore, NY

The Kenmore Village Improvement Society reached out to me to create a design that highlighted local plants and pollinators, which was right up my alley. The idea was to nestle the pollinators in the native plants to create a sort of scavenger hunt… so fun!

Title IX, 2022

University at Buffalo (North Campus), Buffalo, NY

This nearly 100 foot piece was installed on the sidewalk in front of the Alumni Arena at the University at Buffalo. The project was proposed for the Contemplative Sites Initiative by both the Athletics Department and the UB Gender Institute – These one-year public art installations are designed to enhance the campus experience and engage our university community in contemplating key issues.

From my proposal:
I have created a concept for a bright and energetic painted mural to celebrate the outstanding work UB is doing in the realm of women's sports. In my design, nine panels of the sidewalk in front of the Alumni Arena are used to stage the celebration of Title IX. Each of the eight Women's sports teams at UB are represented with their own icon and the ninth panel is indicated as an homage to the civil rights law that made them possible. The design is united by a vibrant layout of shape and color that adds energy vibrance to the surrounding area.

It was so fun to be on campus and field questions from students and visitors asking about what I was doing. It took about 10 days or so to paint (with a few rain days in between work days). And it is even better yet to see the mural activated by all of the female athletes! Here is a link to an article about the mural put out by UB.

I am so very passionate about art and think it is important to celebrate history – especially when it promotes equality and the progress we have made. Cheers to more of that!

Welcome to the Hydraulics District, 2021

550 Seneca Street, Buffalo, NY

I was thrilled to be awarded the opportunity to create a mural through Arts Services Initiative to welcome residents and visitors to the Hydraulics District of Buffalo. This area has changed drastically since we moved here in 2014, and my mural adds a bright pop of color to the industrial neighborhood. My concept was to create a welcoming wall with patterns and lettering stemming directly from a publication historically published by the Larkin Soap Company, The Larkin Idea. The Larkin Soap Company, was a company founded in 1875 in Buffalo, NY as a small soap factory. It grew tremendously throughout the late 1800s and into the first quarter of the 1900s with an approach called The Larkin Idea that transformed the company into a mail-order conglomerate that employed 2,000 people and had annual sales of $28.6 million (equivalent to $369,472,000 in 2020) in 1920. The company's success allowed them to hire Frank Lloyd Wright to design the iconic Larkin Administration Building which stood as a symbol of Larkin prosperity until the company's demise in the 1940s.

Floral Mosaic, 2021

Private Residence, Buffalo, NY

Cassandra was a joy to work with! She listened carefully to the ideas I had, and sent several design ideas to consider. She had loads of patience as I asked questions and requested modifications. Seeing her work on site was incredible. She was efficient yet careful, and open to feedback and suggestions. She also easily adapted to changing surface conditions, some of which necessitated unexpected design modifications. I loved seeing her design come to life! It felt like it wasn’t just a job to her – she truly wanted to make this mural a work of art that would enhance the beauty of the space for years to come, and she succeeded, beyond my wildest dreams. Every day I think the mural couldn’t possibly be more beautiful, and then I’m proven wrong the next day when I fall in love with it just a little bit more. Thank you Cassandra for sharing your talents with me!

Healing Garden, 2020 and Together We Fly, 2021

Family Promise of WNY, Buffalo, NY

I had the privilege of adding hopeful imagery to the walls of a wonderful organization bringing vital resources ad hope to families experiencing homelessness. My first design for the hallway of Family Promise was infused with elements of nature: such as stars, rainbows, flowers and butterflies. I included whimsical and stylized flowers that symbolize hope and healing such as columbine, elderflowers and violets. Also included in the night sky was a star constellation that takes the shape of a house called Cepheus – acting as a beacon of hope for the families in their time staying at the center. The second mural, Together We Fly, was designed to brighten another section of the newly renovated building. This piece builds on the theme of optimism and community and offers residents and visitors a beautiful backdrop for photographs.

Working with Cassi has been a delight! We feel so lucky as an organization to have benefited from her talent and vision. Her colorful and whimsical murals added the magic we were looking for to transform our homeless shelter facility into a truly special space. Cassi herself has been very easy to work with and has connected into the vision of Family Promise which seeks to build a community that wraps homeless children and their families in hope. Thank you, Cassi, for gifting us with joy and color and light!

Pick Me Up, 2019

831 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, NY

Garden Walk Buffalo and the Elmwood Village Association sought to create a vibrant floral mural to celebrate their 25th Anniversary. My design highlights recognizable and imagined flowers together in an energetic arrangement. This was my first mural, and it has quickly become an anchor in the neighborhood and is adored by the community, young and old alike.
